Dr. Mike was born and raised in Bennington, VT and currently lives in Pittsfield, MA with his wife, Laura, and their three wonderful children: Sean, Alex and Samantha. He is thrilled to be close to home and to continue the tradition of excellence that Dr. John Hanson provided for the residents of Berkshire County for over four decades.
In 1995 Dr. Mike graduated magna cum laude from St. Michael’s College in Vermont with a B.A. in Psychology. He was inducted into the National Catholic Honors Society, Delta Epsilon Sigma, and the National Psychology Honor Society, Psi-Chi. Following college, he pursued his passion for soccer by playing professionally for five years in the United Systems of Independent Soccer Leagues (USISL). He enjoys sharing his enthusiasm for the game as a trainer and coach for youth soccer teams.
Returning to academic life, Dr. Mike received his DMD from the prestigious University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 2004. He was inducted into the National Dental Honor Society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon. Dr. Mike then pursued a three-year specialty program at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN where he received his certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in 2007. Dr. Mike had the distinct honor of being a Diplomate of, and Board Certified by, the American Board of Orthodontics and is currently undergoing the voluntary certification process.
Dr. Mike is committed to providing the most current orthodontic treatment options. He is a certified and advanced Damon System provider, he has extensive experience with all leading self-ligating bracket systems, as well as Temporary Anchorage Devices, and he is the only premier preferred Invisalign provider in Berskhire County. Dr. Mike is one of 10 orthodontists recently selected by Invisalign to participate in the Future Elite Program, an Invisalign pilot study offered for the first time in the United States. By regularly participating in continuing education, both on a local and national level, he is able to offer patients the best and most efficient treatment options, and the highest quality care available.
When asked why he pursued a career in orthodontics Dr. Mike said:
“Orthodontics combines my interests in psychology, science, art, and working with people. I love what I do because I meet people of all ages and I am able to build relationships with them over the course of treatment. Learning about patients’ interests, achievements, goals and what is happening in their lives makes the office a fun and lively place. For many people, orthodontic treatment is a life-changing event and I am truly grateful to be part of that process. I love seeing the positive change in self-confidence that comes with the creation of a beautiful smile."
When not in the office or spending time with his family, Dr. Mike can be found coaching soccer, playing tennis, hiking, skiing, biking, or playing guitar.
